Tomorrow we make the journey up to WA to spend time with my family and be apart of farm life again this summer.
My parents have been on quite a journey the last few months. They’ve really sacrificed and done hard things to fight dad’s cancer. I’m so proud of them and I’m looking forward to being with them in the trenches again as opposed to praying from afar.
The other night Sean and I were discussing how we are building family culture for our children to both ground them now and to some extent, their future lives. In the conversation I was thinking back to my childhood and was rambling to my husband about how much I had loved yard work, planting our garden, and applesauce day, hiking, extra, extra, and then I realized, it was all special to me basically because of one person, actually two, because mom was always there which made my baseline really good. But when dad was home from work, the everyday mundane stuff was elevated to wonderful delight. If you’ve ever watched my dad parent you be able to understand. He alway put his heart into what he wanted us kids to put our hearts into and he made us feel that we were valued team members. He lived and worked right beside us. Man, my childhood is full of regular stuff made glorious. Thanks Daddy…I can’t wait to be doing life beside you more! Here we come!
